Announcement    Welcome to the online store of fine artist, Mike Southern. I create finely detailed, anatomically intricate etchings of birds, bugs and other creatures that never cease to captivate. I keep my squinty-eyed vigil to all things beautiful in Portland, Oregon USA.

I've also been known to paint landscapes and figurative works with an allegorical bent. Check back regularly.

A word about etching: The process saw its origins in the early Renaissance and has been popular with artists for centuries. The drawing is scratched into a copper plate with a needle and a variety of other techniques. Ink is then rubbed into these marks and the image is transferred to the paper by running the copper plate through a very heavy etching press.
